Located on the North East shores of Prince of Wales Island along the Inside
Passage, this is the place to go for unforgettable fishing!
The waters surrounding Coffman Cove are teaming with halibut (30-300 pound),
five species of Pacific salmon, lingcod, a variety of rockfish, Dungeness crab,
large shrimp and clams. Be sure to save some time for steelheading -- the Island
hosts numerous steelhead rivers and was recently named a "Steelhead Mecca" by
Salmon and Steelhead Journal (Spring 2006). The creeks and rivers, as well as
hike-in lakes nearby also host Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and some Grayling.
Beyond fishing, Prince of Wales offers spectacular scenery with rolling hills
and vertical cliffs, fresh water rivers and lakes, 1000 miles of coastline, and
a variety of wildlife (Sitka deer, black bear, mink, seals, sea lions, sea
otters, and whales). This is a great place for hiking and kayaking as well as
visiting the El Capitan Cave
and Totem Park in Hydaburg.
Both Salmon Shores cabins (the Chinook and the Coho) offer a warm rustic character to
them and are comfortably furnished. They include fully equipped kitchens
(including chest freezers) and bathrooms and showers. Bedding and towels are provided. These
are cozy places close to town and the marina that are easily accessible.
There are several guides in Coffman Cove as well as boats and cars to rent to
create the perfect vacation. Links and contacts are on the vacation planner page
